Several teachers are yet to receive their September salaries, two days after pay day.

Aretha Willie, Principal of George Headley Primary in Kingston, told Radio Jamaica News that seven of her teachers, five of whom are new, have not been paid.

Mrs. Willie said she has been making contact with the Education Ministry.

"I called, I wrote the Education Officer on Wednesday. I wrote the name of the seven teachers who were not paid. She promised to do some investigations, get back to me, she didn't. I called today to find out what was happening. The teachers have been asking, the seven of them. I called today, to no avail."

After making those attempts, the principal said she then realised that she had also not been paid.

Mrs. Willie said the Education Officer eventually returned her call, informing her that "there was a glitch in the system" and that the teachers should "give them some time".

But she complained that the issue was not communicated to the teachers, arguing that this was disrespectful.

She said the ministry has promised that the salaries would be disbursed later on Friday.

But Mrs. Willie lamented that the educators may not have been able to conduct their regular business or pay their bills on time.
