SSP ‘Bigga’ Ford to provide more details on Kartel’s arrest today

Senior Superintendent Cornwall "Bigga" Ford, head of the Police Flying Squad, is scheduled to continue testimony Friday at the murder trial of  dancehall entertainer Vybz Kartel and his four co-accused.
SSP Ford will be cross-examined by Attorney Tom Tavares- Finson who is representing Kartel and is expected to provide more details on Kartel's September 2011 arrest.

On Thursday, SSP Ford and before him - colleague Deputy Superintendent Winston Henderson - came under fire from defence attorneys.  Mr. Tavares-Finson suggested that investigators had embarked on a plot to prejudice any upcoming case involving Kartel. Attorney Miguel Lorne also weighed in saying police personnel had gone on a fishing expedition in their quest to prove a case against the five accused.

Mr. Tavares-Finson expressed interest in a notebook which SSP Ford said he had recorded details of six phones confiscated from Kartel following his arrest. SSP Ford testified that the book had been lost, possibly during the relocation of  the Flying Squad to its present headquarters on Harbour Street.

In the absence of  the notebook, presiding High Court Judge Justice Lennox Campbell allowed SSP Ford, during his examination in chief, to refresh his memory from his statement.

It is expected that SSP Ford will be able to provide additional information on details of  the confiscated phones at this morning's hearing.
