A St. Andrew based mechanic who was convicted on drug charges has been ordered to pay $2 million as a penalty for his involvement in drug trafficking activities.
Fernando Roye pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges in 2019 and was fined $3 million and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force referred the case to the Financial Investigations Division to assess the financial benefits Roye accrued from his criminal activities.
On July 24 this year, the Supreme Court issued a Pecuniary Penalty Order under the Proceeds of Crime Act, requiring Roye to pay $2 million as a penalty.
The FID says this conviction and penalty demonstrates its commitment to working with law enforcement partners like the JCF to combat crime.
