St. Ann councillors call for funds to be disbursed for hurricane preparation

Councillors on both sides of the political divide in the St. Ann Municipal Corporation are upset with the Ministry of Local Government over what they claim is the failure to approve disbursements from the Special Grants and Repairs Fund.

Among other activities, the fund facilitates cutting of low-lying trees in the parish.

The councillors say it has been two months since the hurricane season started and there is heightened concern about fallen or overgrown trees posing a risk to the safety of residents, building and motorists.

The councillors say they have received confirmation that the funds are yet to be allocated by the Ministry of Local Government and as such, they are calling for Portfolio Minister Desmond McKenzie to act swiftly so works can begin in short order.
