The St. Ann Health Department has deployed additional inspectors to 47 high-risk communities as it intensifies its vector control activities amid the spread of dengue fever.
Medical officer of health Dr. Tamika Henry says these communities are deemed high-risk because of a high dependence on water storage facilities and improper garbage disposal.
Speaking with in an interview with Radio Jamaica News on Thursday, Dr. Henry explained that insect inspectors have been going house-to-house to sensitise residents about how to prevent mosquito breeding.
She said the health department has noted cases of dengue across the five health districts of the parish, with the St. Ann's Bay health district and Alexandria health district the most significantly hit.
Dr. Henry said the parish recorded 72 positive cases of dengue fever from the start of the year to December 4.
The parish recorded one dengue-related death. The victim was a 10-year-old boy.
