St. Ann police prepared for bumper crowd for Intimate concert

Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, Commanding Officer for the St. Ann Police Division
By Lorraine Walker

The St. Ann police say they are prepared to deal with the bumper crowd expected in the parish for the second staging of the Intimate concert Saturday night at Plantation Cove in Richmond.

Commanding Officer, Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, said the police anticipate about 20,000 people at the venue.

He said the police are working with the promoters to build on lessons from last year's staging and make improvements. Police will also be out in their numbers seeking to prevent the gridlock that occurred last year.

"We are looking at some major changes, to do things a little better than what was done last year. So we have asked that promoters, through the persons who operate the venue, look at additional entrance and exit. So of course there will be some physical changes in the location.

"We will also be having some heavy traffic management deployment between the North South roundabout at Mammee Bay into Runaway Bay, and possible we'll stretch this deployment into Ocho Rios just to mitigate against the build up of traffic that is likely to be seen on the roadway," he disclosed.

Officers from St. Mary, Portland and the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB) will join the St. Ann police in their traffic managment efforts.

Meanwhile, SSP Powell is advising members of the public to factor in additional travel time on Saturday, while those who do not need to be in the area are encouraged to make alternative arrangements.

Motorists are also advised to follow the directions of the police as they seek to direct the flow of traffic.

Patrons attending the Intimate concert are encouraged to carpool or make use of the shuttle service being provided by the organisers.
