Assistant Commissioner of Police Devon Watkis is not supporting calls for a State of Emergency in the Kingston East police division.
He has taken the position that the anti-crime measure is not necessary in the area at this time.
The issue has arisen following the recent escalation of violence in sections of Mountain View Avenue.
The killings caused disruptions in communities as well as the along the major thoroughfare.
The security forces have been deployed to the community and, according to ACP Watkis, are constantly monitoring the situation.
He told RJR News that the area is calm and also under the control of the police, so a State of Emergency for the division is not the best use of resources at this time.
According to him, when an assessment of the situation indicates the need to impose the emergency security measure, that is done, but insisted that "at this time I have no basis to even conclude that there's the necessity".
