Steer Town tense following shooting

The Steer Town community in St. Ann is tense following the shooting of an influential person in the community on Wednesday morning.

 

The man was at his gate in Roaring River in the Steer Town area when men drove up and shot him several times to the upper body.

 

He has been hospitalised in serious condition.

 

Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell, Commanding Officer for the St. Ann Police Division, said the police are following several leads in the matter. 

 

"We are looking at a few of the players - I don't want to call their names now - but we have a few names that we are working with and we will be relentless in our effort to pursue them and to bring them to justice," he vowed. 

 

He also urged residents of Steer Town not to harbour criminals in their community "and to turn the gains that you have made over the years into something of nought". 

 

SSP Powell said the police will be maintaining their presence in the area to prevent reprisals. 

 

"What I would want to assure the residents [is] that despite this incident, we are still here with you. We want to ensure that your community continues to work, to get you back to some level of safety because we really appreciated the fact that the community was turning around the corner and showing signs of stability in terms of law and order," he asserted.
