Commanding Officer for the Area 1 Police Division, Assistant Commissioner Clifford Chambers says arrests have been made in connection with the fatal shooting of a mentally ill man said to be responsible for setting ablaze the vehicle of People's National Party councillor candidate Jason Cummings on February 15.

Following the arson attack, 44-year-old Kenroy Doeman was found with bullet wounds sometime after 9 p.m. on the same day, in an area known as Africa, close to his home.

ACP Chambers told Radio Jamaica News that charges have not yet been laid against those in custody but investigations are far advanced.

"The vehicle that [the suspects] were travelling in is now in police custody and forensics have been uplifted from it," he said, adding that statements have been collected, including medical verification that the deceased had a mental illness.
