The police and military are maintaining a strong presence in sections of West Kingston following the shooting of four persons, including the son of convicted drug kingpin Christopher Dudus Coke on Friday afternoon.
Michael Christopher Coke was shot in the abdomen and is now in hospital.
Donovan Samuels, Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate for the Tivoli Division, was injured in the chaos while trying to escape the gunfire.
He reportedly suffered a dislocated shoulder.
Shortly after midday, a group of JLP supporters had gathered at the Livity Plaza along Spanish Town Road following the nomination of their candidates, when gunmen from Denham Town reportedly opened fire on them.
The shooting sparked chaos, forcing shoppers and motorists to flee the market district.
The police say the shooting is part of the ongoing feud between gunmen from Tivoli Gardens and Denham Town.
Senior police personnel have been deployed to the area to control the situation.
RJR News spoke with Assistant Commissioner Devon Watkis, head of the Area Four Headquarters, who said the the police would be looking into security arrangements to prevent reprisal attacks in West Kingston.
"We are in consultations to look at what followup police interventions are necessary and to ensure that those are in place... As we speak, the environment is tense but we have a wide array of deployment," said the senior cop.
McKenzie
Meanwhile, Desmond McKenzie, Member of Parliament for Kingston Western, has urged persons involved in the upsurge in crime in the area to turn themselves in.
He has warned that if they fail to comply he will have to take matters into his own hands.
"The shooters know themselves, so instead of allowing the police come to look for them, the easiest thing for them to do is to walk to Denham Town police station and hand themselves in because they are known," he insisted.
"The police have the names and I am going to wait to see if the police will release the names. If the police don't, I am going to release the names publicly," the member of parliament declared.
The Electoral Office of Jamaica has said the shooting did not impact Nomination Day proceedings in the constituency.
