Three former Antigua-Barbuda ministers plead not guilty in bus conversion matter

Three former government ministers in Antigua and Barbuda, including the leader of the main opposition United Progressive Party, Harold Lovell, are to return to court on June 14.

The former ministers pleaded not guilty when they appeared in court on Wednesday.

Mr. Lovell, former education minister Dr. Jacqui Quinn and former deputy prime minister Wilmoth Daniel are accused of converting three buses donated by the government of South Korea for their personal use while they were in public office.

The case was dismissed in 2017 by Magistrate Conliffe Clarke.

However, in 2019, Director of Public Prosecutions Anthony Armstrong continued the case.

The matter was then heard by Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh who ruled that there was enough evidence against the three accused.

In June last year, she committed the matter to the High Court.
