Toronto's Mayor Ford resorts to "Jamaican accent" in drunken tirade

Rob Ford, Toronto’s disgraced mayor, is in the news again with another drunken rant, and on this occasion a bit of Jamaican influence appears to be associated with the incident.

NBC News reported on Tuesday that Ford had confirmed that he'd “fallen off the wagon” (got drunk) after a video surfaced “showing him rambling incoherently with what appeared to be a Jamaican accent in a steakhouse.”

The report said Ford - who had claimed to have sobered up after admitting last November that he had smoked crack in a "drunken stupor" - told reporters he was boozing "a little bit" on Monday night but had not taken any drugs.

"I was with some friends and what I do in my personal life with my personal friend; that’s up to me," Ford reportedly said.

Curse words

In the video, Ford is seen at a Steak Queen restaurant, in a profanity laced rant, complete with a Jamaican sounding accent and laced with some well known Jamaican curse words.

"It's how I speak with some of my friends," he said by way of explanation on Tuesday.

Ford gained international notoriety last year when a video showing him smoking crack was shown to reporters in May.

He denied the allegations for months, but finally admitted he had bought and used drugs, driven drunk and urinated in a parking lot. In response, the Toronto City Council stripped him of most of his powers.

That indignity has not deterred Ford, 44, from seeking to remain in the public spotlight. He has already filed papers to run for re-election.
