Traffic police conducting operation on Llandovery main road following vehicular crashes

In the wake of two motor vehicle crashes along the Llandovery main road in St. Ann which resulted in multiple fatalities, the Highway and Traffic Division is now conducting an operation at the location.

Five persons were killed last month, while four died in a crash which occurred on Tuesday night.

Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen, head of the Highway and Traffic Division, says an inspection of the road was done.

"It is a good stretch of road, properly marked and all that is required is conformity with the rules of the road; stay within the prescribed speed limit. The area where that latest crash occured, the white line is clearly indicating that it should be an area of no overtaking," he highlighted.

He said the operation so far has been yielding several prosecutions.

"So far we have prosecuted over 100 breaches of the Road Traffic Act; we have removed some 22 pairs of blades from vehicles that have been found to be defective; some six vehicles have been seized for non-conformity with the Road Traffic Act and our operation continues," he declared.
