Tredegar Park residents want security post

Residents of Tredegar Park in St. Catherine are calling for the redeployment of the security forces in the area.

The residents say they have been living in fear since the latest flare up of violence in their community and neighbouring Gravel Heights.

They told RJR News that the presence of an army post was needed most urgently as gunmen have sent threats to them.

"I think it would help a lot because most of the residents are very scared. The post would help the school also because, gunmen are coming into our community from the community just behind the school, so I think the security post would be of great help around here," said one resident of Tredegar Park.

The residents say they are in fear for their lives as threats have been sent to the community that men will be killed execution style and the women will be raped.

On Saturday, the head of Cadlin Rose, 59; a Tredegar Park resident, was found along a section of the Thompson Pen main road.

On Tuesday, men said to be from the adjoining community of Gravel Heights invaded the community through a back entrance of the Tredegar Park All Age School and fired shot indiscriminately causing teachers and students to scurry for cover.

The incident left children at the school traumatized and forced the school to close its gates on Wednesday.
