Tropical depression could become hurricane, to affect Jamaica Monday

Forecasters say a tropical depression which formed in the Atlantic Ocean  is headed west toward the Caribbean.

Tropical storm watches are now in effect for Barbados, Dominica and St. Lucia.

The depression’s maximum sustained winds are at 35 mph.

The storm is moving to the west at 21 mph

Head of Jamaica’s Weather Branch, Evan Thompson  says  the s general track of the storm which is  expected to strengthen takes it toward Jamaica.

The system could become a hurricane over the next couple of days, and could threaten the island by Monday August 6 on its current track.
