Tropical Storm Rafael: NEOC activated

By Prince Moore

The government has activated the National Emergency Operations Centre [NEOC] in anticipation of the possible impact of adverse weather conditions, associated with Tropical Storm Rafael.

This decision follows consultations with the Meteorological Service of Jamaica.

The government says the NEOC is ready to coordinate preparedness and response measures as the situation evolves.

The National Emergency Operations Centre is expected to focus on mobilizing resources, ensuring effective communication, and maintaining readiness to provide support and aid to communities that may be affected.

Minister of Local Government and Community Development Desmond McKenzie says every possible resource is being placed at the disposal of the emergency response teams to ensure the safety and well-being of every Jamaican.

Minister McKenzie is urging members of the public to remain vigilant, stay informed through official updates, and to take all necessary precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones.

He says the government will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates as needed.

The Local Government Minister is encouraging all Jamaicans to follow safety guidelines issued by ODPEM and local authorities and to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.
