US President Donald Trump is expected to meet with top Republicans in Congress before making an announcement on infrastructure later on Tuesday.
He attended a multi-faith prayer service at the National Cathedral earlier and was rebuked by a bishop who asked him to have mercy on people including those whose children fear that their parents will be taken away.
Meanwhile, former leader of the Proud Boys Henry Enrique Tarrio and Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes have been released from prison, as President Trump set free more than 1,500 people charged for the US Capitol riot four years ago.
Within less than 24 hours of Mr. Trump pardoning or commuting sentences of those who tried to violently overturn the 2020 election, the riot's two most prominent leaders left prison.
Mr. Trump is also dismissing charges against those charged, but not yet tried, for the riot.
Since his inauguration, the new president has signed a flurry of executive actions, including declaring a national emergency at the southern border, climate policy rollbacks and starting the process of a US withdrawal from the World Health Organization.
