Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says he's hoping that with further communication the non-payment of salaries to medical consultants will be ironed out in coming days.

Following an emergency meeting on February 16, the Medical Consultants Association said members are restive over unpaid retroactive salaries from the public sector compensation review.

The consultants claim they have been victimised.

The association said all other public sector groups, including parliamentarians received their retroactive salaries within two months of being paid new rates under the compensation review.

The consultants say a firm request was sent to the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service to ensure retroactive salary payments are paid within this fiscal year, and no later than March 2025.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica News on Monday, Dr. Tufton said he spoke with some members of the association and follow-up communication will take place this week, which should lead to some clarity and resolution on the matters raised.
