Dr. Christopher Tufton and Bendon resident Josephine Gordon

Member of Parliament for West Central St. Catherine, Dr. Christopher Tufton, led a team from the National Works Agency (NWA) on a tour of flood-prone areas in the constituency on Wednesday.
Among the low-lying areas affected by flood waters are Bendon in Kitson Town, Johns Road and Frazers Content.
Radio Jamaica News caught up with Dr. Tufton at a property in Bendon, where several houses for a family of 50 were flooded on Tuesday.
Dr. Tufton said it is usual that during heavy rainfall the houses are flooded, as a drain close to the property is unable to manage the volume of water.
"The drain, which comes from the road through the property, overflowed and many of the houses were flooded. It’s been a problem for some time and so I brought the NWA team here to do an assessment and hopefully, to do a technical design to see what can be done to avoid this kind of flooding from taking place ‘cause this happens quite a few times," he noted.
He said the rains have left a lot of water, debris and road damage in the affected areas.
Main roads in need of rehabilitation were also assessed by the NWA team.
Josephine Gordon, a resident of Bendon, said she is elated that the problem is getting attention.
"Because if dem nuh do something about this, we’re going to flood and kids and everybody aguh dead. We tired a it now, and enough is enough now. Clothes, everything, furniture, everything damage; chicken dead off, a lot of things. And mi think seh things affi come together now and put measures in place," she demanded.
