Two jurors excused from inquest into Bob Woolmer’s murder

The Coroners Inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of former Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer got under underway promptly at 10 Tuesday morning.

Kingston Coronor, Patrick Murphy, laid down strict ground rules governing the Inquest.

The rules include the banning of all electronic recording devices, inclusive of mobile telephones and laptop computers.

Mr. Murphy also reminded spectators that no sketches or portraits of the proceedings should be done.

Following a half-hour selection process, 11 jurors consisting of five men and six women were empanelled.

A government employee who was summoned as a potential juror was excused as she is exempt from appearing in such matters.

Another potential juror was also excused for what was deemed to be his hearing difficulty.

Mr. Woolmer was found unconscious in his hotel room at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Sunday March 18, a day after the Pakistani cricket team was knocked out of the ICC Cricket World Cup by Ireland.

He was later pronounced dead at the University Hospital.

In the meantime, RJR sources confirmed that government pathologist Dr. Ere Sheshiah suffered a stroke more than a week ago.

It is not yet clear if Dr. Sheshiah will be asked to assist the crown at the Inquest.

Dr. Sheshiah has since been released from hospital.
