The University and Allied
Workers (UAWU) is accusing Pearnel Charles, Labour and Social Security Minister,
of turning a blind eye to concerns raised regarding the actions of Jamaican
Infrastructure Operator Limited (JIO), operators of Highway 2000.
Lambert Brown, UAWU President says the union wrote to Mr. Charles in April and May respectively outlining the grouses, however no response has been forthcoming.
Mr. Brown says the union is upset over the treatment being meted out to workers and blames Mr. Charles's lack of intervention for most of the workers positions being made redundant in June.
Mr. Brown is adamant that until Mr. Charles intervenes in the matter, the management of JIO will continue to show disregard for its employees by refusing to meet to discuss the issues.
