The United Kingdom has reversed an earlier decision not to accept Jamaica's vaccination cards.
As a result, Jamaicans travelling to the UK as of Monday will be able to present their vaccination cards upon entry and be acknowledged as fully vaccinated.
Fully vaccinated travellers will be able to avoid quarantine but will be required to take a COVID-19 test two days after arrival.
Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith has said the development is good news.
"We really are pleased that Jamaica's vaccination programme and, in particular, our vaccine cards will now be recognised by the UK. It's great news for vaccinated Jamaicans who were impacted by previous non-recognition and, of course, non-Jamaicans who reside here and have been vaccinated."
She said Jamaica will now join several other CARICOM nations as well as the United States and members of the European Union, who have been added to the list of countries whose proof of vaccination is recognised by the UK.
The minister added that talks are ongoing to get other jurisdictions to recognise Jamaica's vaccination programme.
Fully vaccinated Jamaicans who travelled to the UK recently had been facing challenges as they were required to do COVID-19 tests and quarantine in that country for 10 days, despite their vaccination status.
