The Marlie Mount Primary School in Old Harbour, St. Catherine was the scene of chaos Thursday morning after hundreds of parents gathered to get their children pre-registered for the September term. But a disagreement over how the registration should be handled resulted in the process being abandoned.
Angry parents clashed with the school's administration threatening to disrupt classes for the day.
The parents and guardians reportedly started assembling from five o'clock Wednesday afternoon and the numbers continued to swell into the wee hours of the Thursday morning.
When RJR News arrived at the school shortly after 8 o'clock, several of the irate parents were already on the compound while others were standing at the gate.
Earlier the police had to be called in to restore order as the chaotic situation threatened to get ugly. The parents complained that the numbering system they had implemented overnight was disregarded by the school's administration. But the school's principal Pamela Mapp explained that the school had its own plan: she said they had set up three seperate areas for register
The situation was eventually brought under control after Ms Mapp managed to persuade those on the compound to leave. She said a new date will be arranged for the registration.
