US agents join hunt for scammers linked to death of American woman

US agents have now joined local law enforcement officers in the hunt for lottery scammers who have been linked to the murder of an American woman in Montego Bay, St. James, two weeks ago.

The body of Heidi Ann Muth, a 68 year old retired school teacher from California was found with stab wounds on a dirt track in Ironshore on September 10.

Mrs Muth was murdered two days after she arrived in Jamaica.

She told friends that she was travelling to Jamaica to collect money owed to her.

However, a senior investigator told RJR News that the American was lured to Jamaica by lottery scammers in Montego Bay.

He said the cops are following strong leads and are now tracking a group of scammers.

It is understood that Mrs Muth wired money to Jamaica last year after being told by the scammers that she had won the lottery.

Our sources revealed that US law enforcement agents informed Mrs Muth that she had been scammed and instructed her not travel to Jamaica. However, she reportedly disobeyed their instructions and travelled to Jamaica on September 8 to collect her perceived winnings.

Investigators say she was killed by the scammers.
