US Congress calls for Secret Service director to resign over Trump rally shooting

US Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle has been grilled by a bipartisan House Committee over the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.

Ms. Cheatle described the shooting as the most significant operational failure at the Secret Service in decades.

During the hearing, lawmakers from the Republican and Democratic parties called for her resignation - though she has declined to do so.

Members of the committee were openly frustrated by Ms. Cheatle's answers, though she has emphasised that she cannot comment on ongoing investigations.

One man was killed at the rally on July 13 and three others, including Mr. Trump, were injured.

Multiple witnesses reported seeing a man with a rifle on a rooftop minutes before shots were fired.
