UTech administrative staff remain off the job

By Racquel Porter

Administrative, technical, and ancillary staff at the University of Technology, Jamaica stayed off the job on Tuesday to drive home their displeasure with Monday evening's proposed timeline for retroactive salary payments under the compensation package review.

On Monday, UTASA members blocked and padlocked the entrances to the university expressing dissatisfaction over the delayed payment.

They later met with the university management following the protest.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica News on Tuesday morning, UTASA President Janette Grayson said the university proposed paying the staff in tranches with the first payment in September 2025 and the second, April 2026.

But Ms. Grayson said she rejected the offer, proposing instead that 50 per cent be paid in March 2025 and the remainder in May 2025.
