More details have emerging surrounding the cancellation of Saturday night's much anticipated appearance of top-flight artiste Vybz Kartel at the One Caribbean Music Festival in Port of Spain Trinidad and Tobago.
According to Trinidad Express, Kartel's management announced that the cancellation of his appearance due to the event promoter's failure to meet contractual obligations.
It is understood that despite efforts to resolve the issues over the past months, the promoter did not fulfill the requirements outlined in the performance agreement.
The Express noted that Vybz Kartel's team expressed gratitude to the government of Trinidad and Tobago for granting him permission to enter the country and hopes to perform for local fans in the future.
But there's a new twist.
According to reports, the show organisers, One Caribbean Music Festival, say Kartel was formally contracted to perform for a fee of US$1.35 million; $950,000 had reportedly been remitted to Kartel while an additional $150,000 was disbursed to the artiste's legal representative.
OCMF organisers claim they were asked by Kartel's management to adjust his travel itinerary to a Friday flight.
The festival organisers say they acceded to the request in good faith and that the remaining balance due was made available in full. But it is being said that due to legal and financial regulations in the twin island republic, the organisers were unable to disburse the final amount in cash.
The event went ahead as planned, featuring over 15 Caribbean artistes.
