Vybz Kartel Trial - Defence attorney suggests police interference

A defence attorney in the murder trial of dancehall entertainer Vybz Kartel, has suggested that a fire at Kartel’s Havendale residence could have been the work of  policemen.

Attorney Pierre Rogers, who is representing Kartel's co-accused Kahira Jones, raised the possible involvement of  the police, during his cross examination of Nicole Brown Baxter, Government Forensic Analyst.

Brown-Baxter testified, that on August 29 she was escorted by homicide investigators to premises on Swallowfield Avenue in the corporate area.

She said a forensic officer and three other employees visited what she described as a suspected murder scene.

She testified that she examined the three-bedroom flat and adjoining areas and on completing her inspection and collecting  samples it was determined that there were three fires. She inferred the fires were deliberately set in sections of the house.

Rogers asked whether the crime scene was secured, in response, Brown Baxter said she was unsure adding that she did not make any enquiry as to who reported the fire.

Rogers then suggested possible involvement of police investigators in the fire.

Brown Baxter who is also a Chemist was asked if she did not consider swabbing the hands of the police officers.he replied that she did not.

The trial continues on Tuesday.
