The business partner of convicted dancehall entertainer Vybz Kartel has reacted to the controversy regarding whether the artiste should be allowed to release songs while being incarcerated.

Michael Dawson, who also co-authored a book with Vybz Kartel,  responded to further questions raised by Lisa Hanna, St. Ann South Eastern Member of Parliament, about whether the songs of convicted artistes, such as Vbyz Kartel, should be banned.

Speaking on RJR's Hotline on Friday morning, Mr. Dawson said he is not in favour of censorship.

"I think that we should do whatever the law mandates. However, as a writer and one who produces theatre, I don't believe in any form of censorship at all...We've seen writing from several people we don't like. I try to learn from people I don't like as much as from those who I have some commonality with," he argued.

He said he has no knowledge of Vybz Kartel producing songs since being incarcerated.

Since Ms Hanna made the comments, she has faced backlash on social media, including threats.

But Mr. Dawson condemned the threats against Miss Hanna describing them as pathetic and cowardly.

"Anyone can claim to be a fan or a loyalist and do it in the name of such and such a person, but I can assure you that you will not see anything coming officially from Vybz Kartel or someone like myself, who is a business partner, supporting that."

"I would just encourage anyone to stop. It's really ridiculous... He has a tremendous youth following and I would be very disappointed if some youngster trying to create an impression, trying to get a like or a follow on Twitter, posts something and find themselves in trouble with the law," Mr. Dawson urged.
