Desmond McKenzie, MP for West Kingston
Desmond McKenzie, Member of Parliament for West Kingston, is seeking the intervention of the Justice Minister after raising concern about the Commission of Enquiry into the May 2010 incursion.
Mr. McKenzie is taking issue with the treatment of West Kingston residents who have given testimony at the Enquiry, which is in its third day, and says he will contact the Justice Minister on the matter today.
"I'm totally disgusted about it!" he declared, in an interview with RJR News. Pointing to how two witnesses from the community "were treated" during Tuesday's sitting of the enqiry, he said "God help the rest of those who are going there, and... as the Member of Parliament I cannot allow it to happen!"
During Tuesday's sitting, two witnesses - Kishona Gordon, and Granville Roy Johnson - had several heated exchanges with lawyers at the enquiry, resenting some of the questions and the manner in which they were being spoken to.
The questioning of witnesses, "has to be done in a way that the people's rights are respected; you can't treat these people as if they are nothing," he declared.
Checks by RJRJ News revealed that the JLP sought to get standing to appear before the Commission, however, this was denied because of the desire to make it non-partisan.
