Winston Ennis recommits to the JLP

Winston Ennis, councillor-elect for the Waterloo Division

Winston Ennis, councillor-elect for the Waterloo division in the Kingston & St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, has confirmed that he remains a member of the Jamaica Labour Party.

In a media statement Wednesday morning, Mr Ennis said reports suggesting that he had broken ranks with the party were premised on a leaked voice note that was sent in a JLP affiliated WhatsApp group where sentiments were expressed in the heat of the moment.

He said he had not sent a letter formally withdrawing his membership in the JLP and retracts any verbal suggestion of his departure.

Mr Ennis said he met Tuesday night with members of the Waterloo division and party workers and committed to resolving internally any issue which may have led to the sentiments expressed in the voice note.

JLP Deputy Chairman Dr Aundre Franklin told Radio Jamaica News that he along with other members of the JLP hierarchy would be meeting with Mr Ennis to better understand his position.

If Mr Ennis had departed from the JLP, it would have broken the 20-20 tie for the KSAMC.

This would have given the People's National Party outright control of what's considered to be the most coveted municipal corporation.
