3 arrested for the disappearance of US teen in Aruba

Two Surinamese brothers and a Dutch teen have been arrested in the May 2005 disappearance in Aruba of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway.

Prosecutors on Wednesday said Deepak and Satish Kalpoe were arrested in Aruba while Joran Van der Sloot was arrested in the Netherlands based on new evidence in the case.

The three were arrested on suspicion of involvement in voluntary manslaughter and causing serious bodily harm that resulted in the death of Miss Holloway.

A statement added that the renewed arrest was ordered because of new incriminating evidence.

The Kalpoes and Van der Sloot were the last known persons to have seen the 18-year-old as she left Carlos n' Charlie's nightclub in Oranjestad, Aruba, in the early hours of May 30, 2005.

Miss Holloway's body has never been found despite a lengthy search, investigation and intense US media coverage.

Aruba authorities were criticised for their handling of the case.

Van der Sloot and the Kalpoes have maintained their innocence.
