California sues Trump over National Guard deployment to LA

Donald Trump has defended his decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles, despite criticism from California officials.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is suing the Trump administration over the move.

Demonstrations began outside the downtown LA office on Friday, where it emerged Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers were carrying out raids across the city.

Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard troops in the city, triggering a political row.

Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Burce believe the local police could handle the protests.
