Caribbean health ministers commit to sepsis strategy to combat global health threat

Caribbean health ministers have joined their counterparts from the Americas in committing to implementing a strategy and action plan to address sepsis, an extremely serious clinical condition caused by infectious agents.

Medical authorities have warned that delayed diagnosis and treatment can be fatal and that globally, sepsis is responsible for 20 per cent of all deaths.

The new strategy and action plan to reduce the burden of sepsis through an integrated approach from 2025-2029, was approved yesterday at the 61st Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organisation.
