Guyana Fire Service inspecting all dormitories to guarantee fire safety standards

The Guyana Fire Service is undertaking an inspection of all dormitories across the country to ensure they meet fire safety standards.
 
Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn says so far, 16 government buildings, including dormitories, have undergone thorough assessments to ensure compliance with fire protection regulations.
 
The minister's statement came in the wake of concerns raised by the main opposition about fire safety following the tragic Mahdia dormitory fire in 2023 
 
The Mahdiablaze claimed the lives of 20 children. 
 
A commission of enquiry into the deadly inferno highlighted deficiencies in fire prevention measures
