Overseas prison officers recruited for Bermuda

In Bermuda the government says it has been forced to recruit fire and prison service officers from overseas because ganja smoking is rampant.

Government Senate Leader David Burch said all of the island's security services are having great challenges with recruitment, particularly Bermudians, due to the fact that so many local recruits are weed smokers.

He added that many would-be recruits could not make it past the drug testing phase of the recruitment process.

Mr. Burch called on parents to set better examples for their children and young people.

In February this year, Public Transport Director Dan Simmons, lamented that hiring problems caused by widespread drug use were hampering efforts to improve bus services.

At the time, Simmons said a "significant portion" of applicants for driver jobs were eliminated after drug screening.
