Tomas leaves damage in Barbados

Barbados is reporting that Hurricane Tomas did some damage on the island.

According to the Reuters news agency, heavy winds downed power lines and caused damage to some houses as it passed the eastern side of the island.

The Barbados Nation reported that shelters remained closed and Barbadians were being asked to ride out the storm, or stay with relatives who live in safe areas.

There are also reports that the island was without electricity.

The Governments of Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines and St Lucia have now issued Hurricane warnings for their citizens, while the government of France issued the same warning for Martinique.
