Venezuela planning military build-up near Trinidad & Tobago

The Venezuelan Government has announced plans for a military build-up near Trinidad & Tobago.

The Defense Minister said the military would be moving closer to combat what he claimed are criminal acts occurring within territory close to the Gulf of Paria which separates the two countries.

Venezuela has named Trinidad and Tobago as a country from which 'a lot of smuggling' and human trafficking occurs.

The minister said, under the instructions of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, the military would be going there to clear out any terrorist group or any drug trafficking organization operating illegally in that territory,

The US has carried out three strikes on boats allegedly carrying drug traffickers, killing more than a dozen people.
