9 local-based players named in Reggae Boyz squad for STVG games

Nine players from the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL) have been called up to the Reggae Boyz 23-man squad for their CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifiers against St Vincent and the Grenadines on March 21 and 25.

The local-based invitees include Cavalier FC captain Richard King, Shaquan Davis of Mount Pleasant, Warner Brown of Arnett Gardens and the Mount Pleasant pair of Sue-Lae McCalla and Fitzroy Cummings.

Speaking at a JFF press conference on Friday, head coach Steve McClaren said February's international friendlies against Trinidad & Tobago gave him the confidence to introduce the local-based players into the team.

Meanwhile, McClaren noted that the quartet of Di'Shon Bernard, Greg Leigh, Romario Willliams and Mason Holgate are injured. McClaren also announced that senior defender Damion Lowe will be unavailable for the upcoming games.

This is first time for 2025 that the senior Reggae Boys have gotten together, following the November 2024 Nations League home & away quarter final losses to the United States.

The first leg of these Gold Cup qualifiers will be in Kingstown, St Vincent on March 21. The Reggae Boyz will host the second leg on March 25.
