Akeem Bloomfield retires from athletics

The second fastest Jamaican over 400 metres, Akeem Bloomfield has retired from athletics at the age of 27.

Bloomfield who became the first Jamaican junior to run below 45 seconds, following his 44.93 seconds at Boys Champs in 2015, went unto run 43.94 in Eugene, Oregon in 2018, just outside Rusheen McDonald's time of 43.93 set in 2015.

The former Kingston College standout made the final of the 2019 World Championships 400 metres in Doha, Qatar where he finished 8th, but garnered a silver in the mile relay at the meet as well as the World Championships in 2022.

Bloomfield who is based in the United States, has been plagued by injuries in recent times and his last competitive run was in April 2023 at the Tom Jones Invitational meet.
