Former national distance runner Kemoy Campbell is urging athletes to take all precautions before returning to competition after the COVID-19 lockdown, including getting heart screening.

Track and field athletes could return to international action  after the weekend of August 8 and 9 as stipulated by athletics’ world governing body.

World Athletics has set that window aside for countries who would be interested in staging their national championships.

Campbell who was forced to retire from the sport after collapsing during the February 2019 Millrose Games in New York, says athletes should not rush their return especially with numerous uncertainties about the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, revealing he has had four heart stopping scares since his life threatening incident at the Millrose Games last year, 29 year old Campbell is urging sports men and women at all levels to get cardiovascualr screening.

Campbell who is the national record holder for the men's 3000m, 5000m and 10,000 metres, was speaking during the Gleaner Sports Live feature recently on instagram.
