Monty Desai has been appointed as the new batting coach for the West Indies senior men's team. Desai worked with recently reappointed West Indies head coach Phil Simmons at Afghanistan in the post of a batting coach at the ICC Cricket World Cup qualification tournament last year.
He was also head coach of Canada's cricket team, at the ICC World Cricket League Division 2. More recently, he also worked as batting coach for the United Arab Emirates at the ICC T20 World Cup qualification event.
Desai has joined the West Indies ahead of the start of the T20 International Series against India, which bowls off on Friday, December 6 in Hyderabad. The team management unit also includes Roddy Estwick as the bowling coach and Rayon Griffith as fielding coach.
The Windies will engage India in three T20s before taking on the home side in a three match ODI Series which bowls off on December 15.
