The potent jockey trainer combination of Shane Ellis and Anthony "Baba" Nunes, underlined their big race credentials when they teamed up with the 5-2 chance Crown Chaser to land Tuesday's 104th running of the Jamaica Derby over 12 furlongs at Caymanas Park.

Ellis produced a spectacular ride aboard the 3 year old bay colt to pip long time leader Run Julie Run in a blanket finish to the $7.5 million contest, the final leg of the local Triple Crown series.

Crown Chaser who had finished second in the Jamaica St Leger last month, covered the distance in 2 minutes, 38 seconds flat to win by half a length.

It was the 7th Derby victory of Ellis' 28 year career, Nunes was saddling his 6th derby winner, while the pair were combining for their 4th success in the blue ribband event.

Crown Chaser closed a double for Nunes on the programme, while title-chasing jockey Raddesh Roman had two wins, keeping Tevin foster's lead in the jockeys' championship to four, as Foster rode one winner.

Veteran jockey Oneil Mullings also rode two winners, while there were also two wins for trainers Phillip Feanny and Robert Pearson. Racing continues on Saturday.
