England have beaten Australia by an innings and 78 runs inside three days at Nottingham's Trent Bridge to regain the famous Ashes urn by taking an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five match series.
Resuming their second innings at 241 for 7 on Saturday's third morning, Australia added just 12 runs before being dismissed for 253. Adam Voges was left unbeaten on 51.
Twenty-four-year-old all rounder Ben Stokes was phenomenal, ending with 6-36 with terrific swing bowling, while Mark Wood's learning curve continued on an upward trajectory with solid fast bowling of 3-69.
Stuart Broad was named man of the match for his phenomenal spell of 8-15 on the first morning of the game.
Final scores: Australia 60 and 253; England 391-9 declared.
At the end of the contest, Australia's captain Michael Clarke announced he would retire at the end of the series, which concludes with the fifth test at the Oval starting August 20.
Clarke said: "I am retiring from international cricket. One day cricket is about the World Cup and test cricket is about the Ashes. I will give the selectors the chance to rebuild for the next Ashes," Clarke said to Shane Warne.
" I will not jump ship on the boys now, so I'll play the 5th test at the Oval. The time is right now"
