England tighten their grip on first test against Windies

Despite recording figures of 4-114. West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase is still hungry for more wickets as the Caribbean side reached 44-1 in their first innings reply against England at stumps on Friday’s second day of the opening day/night test at Edgbaston.

Former captain Alastair Cook who resumed batting on 153, slammed a topscore of 243, his fourth career double century to add to Joe Root’s 136 as England rattled up a massive 514-8 declared. Roston Chase returned 4-113 while Kemar Roach claimed 2-86.

The West Indies then limped to 44-1, a deficit of 470 when rain ended play. After the early loss of Kraigg Brathwaite for a duck, Kyle Hope and Kieran Powell were granted a life in the slip cordon apiece as they reached stumps on 25 and 18 respectively.
