England’s captain John Terry retires from international football

England’s football captain John Terry has resigned in the wake of allegations of racism.

This morning he attended a Football Association hearing over his part in an incident last season with defender Anton Ferdinand in a match played on October 23.

Its alleged that he used "abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour"  against Ferdinand.

Terry was cleared in a  Magistrates' Court of racially abusing Ferdinand in July .

But he was charged by the FA two weeks later.

The FA’s hearing is expected to last two or three days and will examine the FA charge against Terry, which includes an accusation that he also used "a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race" of Ferdinand.
