The Anthony 'Baba" Nunes trained "Fierceandfabulous" produced a stirring stretch run to catch and beat "Piscean Rocket" and "Border Line" in Monday's Easter Sprint Cup feature over 5 1/2 furlongs at Caymanas Park.
It was the second day of the dual Easter Racing Carnival which kicked off on Saturday.
At the off, the favourite "Insane Bolt" missed the break and never recovered. As they say in the NFL, that play was over before it started.
Winchester led the field along with Concrete Jungle coming to the top of the two furlong homestretch. But no sooner had Concrete Jungle moved into a challenging position, than Piscean Rocket assumed the lead under a smooth ride from former champion jockey Percy Williams, and the pair set sail for home.
Champion jockey Dane Nelson would have none of it, and moved in for the kill astride "Border Line" inside the final furlong, then finally, hot apprentice Obrian White asked 9-1 shot "Fierceandfabulous" for that final effort, and in a three way photo-fnish, Fierceandfabulous nipped Border Line by a neck, while Border Line had a head to spare over Piscean Rocket.
White closed the card aboard Jagsover at 5-1 for his double. Reigning 2-time champion Dane Nelson and former champion Dick Cardenas each rode a double as well, while 13-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta posted two winners.
