France are FIFA World Cup champions for the second time after overcoming Croatia's bold challenge in a thrilling final in Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday. France won the contest 4-2 with goals from Antione Griezemann in the 38th, Paul Pogba in the 59th and Kylian Mbappe in the 65th minutes as well as an own goal which opened the scoring for them in the 18th minute.
Croatia got their goals from Ivan Perisic and Mario Manddzukic in the 28th and 69th minutes respectively. Ironically, it was Mandzukic’s own goal which gave the French the early lead and a handled ball from Perisic which enabled Griezmann to convert from the penalty spot to put France 2-1 ahead.
England’s Harry Kane who scored six goals, won the Golden Boot while Croatia’s captain Luka Modric won the Golden Ball, normally given to the most outstanding player of the tournament.
