Gold medal for J’cans after IAAF strip US athletes of medal

Jamaica could now gain the gold medal from the 4 x 400 metre relay at the 2003 World Indoor Championships.

This could happen as the world governing body, the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) has stripped disgraced United (US) Sprinter Jerome Young of more world championship gold medals because of doping.

The team of Leroy Colquhoun, Danny MacFarlane, Michael Blackwood and Davian Clarke had finished second behind the US at the championships in Birmingham, England.

The IAAF said acting on information it discovered that Young had admitted to doping from 1991 through to 2003.

Blackwood has also been elevated to bronze in the 400 metres from the 2003 World outdoor athletics championships.

Young was banned for life in 2004 but the ban has been backdated to 1999 after he admitted using EPO and human growth harmone in that year.

As a result of this, all his competitive results since then have been disqualified.
