Minister of Sports, Olivia “Babsy” Grange has given the clearest indication yet that funds are in place for repair work on the National Stadium track as well as for the replacement of flood lights at Sabina Park.
The state of the National Stadium track has come into question over the last few months with reports that stakeholders including the Michael Johnson-led Grand Slam Track were concerned whether it could host high level meets.
With the Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships is set for March 25-29 and the Grand Slam Track to take place from April 4-6, Minister Grange says all is being done to ensure the track is resurfaced in time for both events.
Meanwhile, Minister Grange has confirmed that funds have been identified for upgrading of the floodlights at Sabina Park, in time to host the anticipated day/night test match between West Indies and Australia in July.
